Well, after visiting with Nana & Papa for a couple of days we came home yesterday to find the little caterpillars almost done with their transformation and then just after Jake left for school today Ryan and I got to witness two Monarch Butterflies emerge from their tiny chrysalis and stretch out their wings for the first time!! We still have about a week to wait for the other three to emerge so I hope it will happen in the afternoon this time so Jake can see it...it was amazing!! Ryan released one butterfly this morning (while Jake was in school) and then Jake released one this afternoon (while Ryan was in school). It was very special to be able to spend a few minutes with each of them while we visited with the butterfly before releasing it back into the wild.

Slip Sliding Away...

Most days I tote my camera over to the playground to get some of the same old 'snapshot' photos of my kids making faces and being total goofs. as there is no place here in Plymouth that does swimming lessons in the winter! Our options were Laconia or Concord, so being that Buddy & Grampa live in Concord we've been traveling to the YMCA in Concord 2 days a week for most of the fall and winter. Both boys have progressed wonderfully and are moving toward swimming totally on their own with no help or flotation. Jake is already there...he is just working on his strokes, endurance and stamina but swims most of his 30 minute lesson without a bubble. Ryan has been doing wonderfully as well and as I suspected, his instructor said that next week he can move up to a '2 Bubble' (which is only 2 pieces of foam on a belt around his waist..they start at 4 and move down as they improve). We are thrilled as this is much more than just for fun, it's truly a life saving skill and will hopefully help them to know what they should do if they were to fall in the pool...again! Here are some photos...but they are not that great as it is quite hard to take photos when most of the time the kids are face down in the water and I am above them on the pool balcony...

Ryan's lesson is first at 9:15...

He LOVES to float on his back and can do it all by himself (but those photos were a bit blurry)...

He also spends a little time swimming with no bubble each day but his body is still pretty vertical! His favorite part is jumping in!!

NICE SPLASH!!

Jake's lesson begins at 10:15 now that he has moved up to Ray/Starfish level. He is borderline ready for this level...he can do everything in the Eel level but struggles a bit with the Ray/Starfish level. The instructor has had Jake since September so Miss Becca knows that Jake is capable, just needs the extra push to build his endurance and muscles!! He swims almost all the lesson with no bubble and very little help, till he starts to get tired and it is safer for him to wear a 1 bubble for a little extra flotation.

He takes deep breaths and swims with big arms and his face in the water (working on rotary breathing).

Working with a kickboard to focus on a long horizontal body and straight leg kicking.

Not just floating on his back, but kicking and working on his arm motions to swim on his back chicken, airplane, PUSH!!

See you at the pool!!

My little ski bum...

While Ryan asks for more Cocoa...Jake says 'Let's go again!"! This will be Jake's third year on skis and LOOK OUT the boy is a mad-man (but in a good way...not the out.of.control.about.to.get.hurt way that phrase implies). He loves to ski and asks almost every day if we can go to Tenney Mountain today. This is the first year we will have Ryan on skis and he seemed very excited about it...till it happened.

See for yourself...

Getting himself mentally ready while waiting in the car for Dad to buy lift tickets

Wiping out after getting off the lift the first time (this wipeout was on purpose...he wanted to stop so he just leaned over till he fell down)

Holding onto Daddy for dear life

Getting a ski lesson while resting

Screaming the whole way down that he didn't want to ski anymore

And the look telling Mummy it was time for some hot cocoa in the lodge...

So Ryan did not quite enjoy his first trip skiing...but he told us it was too cold and that if we looked at our calendars and picked a day with the sun not the cold he would try it again! I finally brought the camera and as you'll see, I was always bringing up the rear...I'm working on getting my exposure right, we were losing the light and I've learned that shooting in snowy scenes is causing lots of blown highlights...but practice makes perfect!

We had lots of this

Usually followed by this

with a quick reminder from Dad to stop taking your mittens off!!

But all in all we really enjoyed ourselves

and can't wait to go again!!

<img src="http://signatures.mylivesignature.com/54487/367/F91B611F635BCA4EBEE791B11D19105D.png" style="border: 0 !important; We have been lucky enough to visit this farm not only several winters to pick our tree but also in the spring on a field trip with Jake's class as he was in school with the owner's son last year. It is a beautiful piece of property and they do a great job of making cutting down our tree each year a magical experience. Upon arriving (the morning after our first snow of the year) we parked and climbed onto the tractor/hayride. They also have a horse-drawn hayride that will take you down the hill to the fields. The boys had an absolute blast and as we headed down the hill the first thing they spotted was the train that was stopped on the tracks that cut the fields into a front and back section. This train was made up of several cabooses that area folks own and each year they all meet in Lincoln and the train brings them all down to the farm to cut their tree! I don't need to tell you that this was a huge hit for the boys!!! We LOVE trains!! We got off the wagon and immediately trudged into the field to find our perfect tree. Before too long we had it narrowed down to two. We went back and forth between the two for a few minutes and then made the decision and began to cut. Both boys enjoyed helping Daddy use the saw to cut the tree and then we hung out for a while as we waited for the tractor/wagon to come pick us back up. As luck would have it, just as we were climbing the hill back up to the parking area and petting zoo, the train blew it's whistle and began to chug away!! We paid for our tree, loaded it into the car and then took our hot cocoa and explored the goats, miniature horse and tree house for a while. It was a wonderful experience, made better by the freshly fallen snow...putting us all in the Christmas spirit!!

Christmas Photo Shoot

While hiking the other day with the boys and my Father-in-Law we were lucky enough to get the boys to somewhat cooperate and have a few photos taken for our Christmas card. And I got a new lens...so now I can capture said black eye for all to see...

Not Me! This first shot is my before:

I knew very little about photography...I usually just picked up the camera and snapped away. Now I have learned so much more about lighting, composition, white balance, aperture, post-processing etc, etc...and I am getting much better shots:

Still far from perfect but a far cry from where I was before! I am loving what I can do with my camera now and can't wait to buy my new lens!!

Fishing at Rumney Old Home Day...

Crazy, Silly, Funny Faces...I Love Faces

Here is my entry in this weeks theme: Crazy, Silly, Funny Faces over at I Love Faces.

When it has not been raining (and even when it has) we've been spending most of our time at the pool this summer. Jake is becoming quite the accomplished swimmer and has even gotten brave enough to leave his life jacket on the side of the pool from time to time. Nana bought both boys some swim goggles and Jake was modeling them for me the other day! He is such a silly boy!!

Head on over to I Love Faces to check out all the other entries and maybe even post one for yourself!!

A bad, bad blogger...

UPDATED: So sorry for the double photo but I found a cool photo contest that I wanted to enter this photo in and had to do a blog post just for that photo....he's cute so it won't hurt too much to see it again!!

Okay, so I admit it...I'm a horrible blogger. Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

I most certainly have not been so <s>lazy</s> busy lately that I've neglected to keep up with my blog and my Not Me Monday posts. I have absolutely nothing else to do and can't think of anything else I should be doing with my time...Ahem.

I did not let the kids tear apart the house yet again today as I tried to recover from my 'anti-housework' Sunday. I do not work so hard all week to keep the gears in this family chugging that I take a 'day of rest' on Sunday and neglect to do any cleaning, laundry, picking up, cooking or dishes on Sunday. During this time, my house does not end up looking like this:

My darling littlest <s>hellion</s> toddler did not cost us yet another $700 last week when he turned off all the breakers in the electrical panel in the mudroom. These were not the breakers that controlled the novelty freezer in the camp store that had just been stocked with our first large order of ice cream sandwiches, sundae cups and the like for the upcoming weekends. We did not go about our merry lives for 3 whole days before realizing that the freezer was not running and all the ice cream was certainly not a drippy mess in the bottom of the freezer. The customer service rep did not laugh at us when we called to duplicate the order we had just placed 3 days ago and explained what had happened.

That's enough antics from us for the week...let's see what trouble we can not get into next week, huh? For more Not Me fun head on over to MckMama's blog to check out the other Not Me Monday posts!

T-Ball in Pictures..

Okay...and a few words. Well, just as I always am...a day late and a dollar short! I'm back, but not after a crazy afternoon and morning. I've got Peanut and Monkey down for their naps so I get a few minutes to myself...especially since we don't have any water again today. We are getting closer to opening the resort (May 1st) and so have begun to switch over to the summer water system. This involves filling a 10,000 gallon water storage tank and each day when they open the valve to begin filling the tank the pressure being sent down here to the house just dies and eventually goes away completely. I just started to clean the master bathroom and turned on the water to rinse and....nothing. Oh, well! A good excuse to catch up on the blog I have been neglecting horribly.

We've signed Jake up for T-Ball this spring and it should be quite interesting. I am supposed to be involved with Jake out on the field but at the same time have to take Ryan with me as well. Any ideas on how to keep a monkey in one spot at a Pre-K T-Ball game with little to no supervision??? Yeah, this should be fun.

Each day I try to check on a few blogs that I have come across and enjoy reading. It provides me with a few minutes to myself and allows me to live in the fantasy world in my head where I am the perfect wife, mother, sister, daughter...etc. You get the picture. Well, I've gotten hooked on MckMama's blog "My Charming Kids" because she is an amazing spirit, gifted writer and AWESOME photographer! I just love her photos and have found my photos getting slightly better after following some of her tips. Anywho... Her son McKMuffin (a.k.a. Stellan) was diagnosed in utero with some pretty heavy stuff and was not expceted to live...long story short, he was born happy and healthy but recently has found himself with some fairly serious heart problems. He was flown from MN to Boston recently and is currently (like at this very moment) in surgery having a highly risky procedure performed on his tiny little heart to make it beat properly. If you could, please say a prayer for him and his family....as well as for all those who find themselves with little ones who are sick. Then go hug your little ones a little tighter and thank God that we are lucky to have our health. After that is all done...sit down and get comfortable and catch up on life in the frozen tundra with many small children, and go back to read some of the antics the MckFamily was up to before Stellan's health went south.

Other than that, it's just the typical day in our family. I was doing some folding and putting some laundry away and noticed it was a little too quiet...(insert foreboding music here) so went out to check in on the littlest lad and found this (yet again...):

YES, the boy does love his soap! I don't know what to do...I have to leave soap in the bathroom for Jake (and the rest of us) to wash up after using the toilet and I can't lock the door for fear of driving my 4 year old insane having to ask to go to the bathroom after many months of being told he can do it himself.....but.....COME ON! What's a girl got to do to keep her 2 year old in check with out duct-taping him to my leg ('cause that might be worse than cleaning up gobs of soap every day...) Any ideas???? He is really a good boy most of the time...just really busy and a typical curious 2 year old. I could make a recording of me saying NO, DON'T TOUCH...but that would just get older than hearing me actually say it! Well, anyway...

ORIGINAL POST:
Just a quick moment to check in...as life has been CRAZY trying to get the resort ready to open for May 1st. Between shuttling the boys back and forth to school and playdates, helping out around the resort, running errands for Jack and still trying to have good meals ready when we are hungry and clean clothes on our bodies...it's been a full-time job and a half!! Add on top of that a very busy and curious 2 year old that I don't seem to be able to let out of my sight without having another mess to clean up and you've got one busy Mumma!

We've been out and about a lot lately, we played at the Kay's all day on Friday and then Jake and Aidan had their first sleep over. Reports are that it went well...

And...I'll have to finish this later as it is 1 o'clock and I now have to drive one of our newest employees back to Concord so that he can make a Dr's appointment and have a day off!! It is never ending! I'll be back....I promise!

March for Babies...

Hellooooo....yes, It's me! Just checking in quickly to let you know that I am doing something really special at the end of the month and yes...I'm asking for money. I know, what a greedy b*#ch! However...this is for something that is near and dear to my heart, the March of Dimes. As many of you know, Jake made his entrance into our family just about 5-6 weeks early and although he was 'technically' a preemie we were extremely blessed to have a happy and healthy little monkey come home from the hospital with us, never having to even set a tiny foot in the NICU. Unfortunately, that is not the case for so many families out there right now...(including my friend Jen who has now spent a total of 55+ days at the cribsides of her identical twins still in the ICN at DHMC.) The March of Dimes raises money not only for research and an effort to make sure all babies get as much 'inside' time as they need but also to fund research and support for various birth defects and support and assistance for Moms & Dads like Jen and Josh who find themselves tied with both heartstrings and physical needs to the NICU. I was able to actually witness a March of Dimes sponsored support event this week while at DHMC with Jen as I joined her in a class that taught infant and preemie massage. It was really neat to learn different ways that just the simple act of touching your preemie baby can help them grow and heal!! Now if they can just find the right combination of 'rubs & love' that will help Jen's boys breathe better on their own...they can come home and the stress of the NICU can end for one more family!!

So, long story short....I will be walking in the March for Babies event here in Plymouth on April 26th! It's a 3 mile walk and my goal is to raise $150 to donate to March of Dimes. I've already got $50...so I'm 1/3 of the way there! I know it's a lot to ask in such trying economic times...but even just the coins from your pocket for the next week will help!! Jake will be walking with me (hopefully, he's done long walks before, but does not always cooperate for Mumma...) since he is the reason this is near & dear to my heart. And, if you can't contribute financially...just leave me a comment here or on my March of Dimes page because your kind words will help just as much!!

Check it out:

This Says it all......

This cartoon really explains what my life has been like lately...I have come to realize that there are days when I spend entirely too much time not paying attention to my children...

It's just so good to escape reality (which is really kinda crappy right now) and live in someone else's life for a few minutes...till I hear the chaos ensuing in the other room!

So for now, I am resolved to only touch the computer for 15 minutes a day, when the boys are asleep and ALL my 'Mommy Chores' are done. I know, I know...it's been a while. But you see, these kids...and I'm going to go out on a limb here and include the biggest one of them all (my dear husband)...have been keeping me sooooooooo busy lately.

So, to take us back to...ummmm....let's see, the end of January I guess. Pretty uneventful!! Not much to talk about. Jake is still loving school but Jack is really not a fan of the 5:30 am phone call message to let us know when school has been canceled...especially on the days that Jake does not even normally go to school. Then he gets all crabby and mad at me like I actually made the phone call...not actually thinking that I was woken up out of a dead sleep at an unholy hour thinking the only reason that the phone would ring would be that something rather drastic has happened. But, I digress.....

Ryan is quite the artiste lately....I just wish is was not on my walls, or with the desitin!! No matter where I hide stuff to keep it out of his grimy little hands...the little sucker seems to always find something to get into the minute I get involved in a project. Okay, so the truth is I can't even pee anymore without wondering what the heck he is into!!! Ah, the joy of having a munchkin that is expirementing with the 'terrible twos'! On a positive note however, Jake has gotten very good at telling me exactly what Ry is up to. I now get shivers down my spine each time I hear Jake's little voice yell..."Mah-om...Ryan is up to something again!!" Arn't they precious!!

We've had lots of company the past month or so...Starting with Nana & Papa being home from Florida for a couple of weeks. We had a great few visits with them and Uncle Chris and are now dealing with missing them quite a bit. Jake asks a couple times a week if we can go visit them. So far he has decided that we can walk, drive or fly there. He even tossed around the idea of getting a box big enough to put him in and then I could just ship him. It got a little dicey when we picked up his new carseat and I let them play with the box for a couple of days. He decided it would be just right and if I could just take him to the post office he'd handle the rest...

Kelley was also here while my parents were home and he spent most of the month with us. He left for a few days in the middle and came back with his girlfriend Kerri. We love them both so much and it's always such a pleasure to have them here. They love the boys and are soooo tolerant when, even though we seem to stay up really late when they are here...they get woken up so early by a couple of raving lunatic monkeys screaming at the top of the lungs like we live in the biggest house ever built. It's so wonderful to hear this first thing in the morning "MOM...I NEED JUICE NOW PLEASE!" (In capital letters to emphasize just how LOUD it is spoken/yelled...). Kerri and Kelley brought their Wii and I have to say I am very impressed with this technology. It was very cool and just a little bit addictive...I would have to say I am in just a little bit of withdrawal. We got this cool video of Jake rockin' out trying to be a mini Steven Tyler: (remember to pause the music on the player on the left of the page!)

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v18.nonxt6.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D85dcd4e69d3b0b18%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331462401%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D2FA2CF970B4D8B4D9B784FCA7CC7E637576E3233.213684558BCED4FEFD81C86D3461A33F6A051C6F%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D85dcd4e69d3b0b18%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3D5L9_W4TrwY9PfTc-SFzNg1gLDIs&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Kerri & Kelley are also soooo helpful when they are here...it is not like they are guests, but extensions of us and they never hesitate to help with the boys or around the house. And I do have to add that we do seem to eat VERY WELL when they are here!!! Can't wait 'till we see them again...but next time maybe we'll make it to NY!!

Thats about it for now...lots going on but nothing too exciting!! We're on vacation from school this week so I'm trying to come up with fun things to do with the boys! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

I for one was not so distracted this weekend that after running out to the store on Sunday to pick up a few things ($80 later) to finish dinner, I most certainly did not leave a whole brand new gallon of milk sitting on the shelf in the pantry to go warm and sour overnight. Nope, not me!

I also certainly did not spend the whole weekend in my pajamas, only getting out of them to shower and put on a brand new set of clean pj's. I would never stoop so low as to even have company over for dinner on Sunday evening and stay right in my favorite 'comfy-cozies'.

J & R most certainly did not spend at least 1/2 of the day on Sunday in just a diaper and underpants because they were not cooperating and I did not have the energy to fight them into getting dressed. This is because my children most certainly would not disobey their mother and when she asks them to do something they of course answer (in sing-song unison) "yes, mother dear."

And finally, I am not sitting here writing my 'Not Me Monday' post rather than showering, picking up toys, vacuuming the house, and doing a daily load of laundry. I would not do that. I am definitely no a procrastinator!! Not ME

Enjoy your Monday!

PS: I also did not get in the shower shortly after my post and find that the shampoo was mysteriously missing. I then did not use the Irish Spring bar of soap to wash my hair because I was not getting out to go to the other bathroom and find my shampoo. And...I will not say that my hair looks amazing good for being washed with a bar of soap rather than shampoo...nope, not me!!

We're having a heat wave...

We ARE having a heat wave...just in the wrong direction!! After struggling with everything I did yesterday (check out this box of pasta I just couldn't seem to get into)
We woke up at 6 am this morning to a Jake snuggling in between Jack & I, fake snoring and giggling on every exhale. After a few minutes of tickling Jake till he almost wet his pants...Jack went into the bathroom to shower and got the bad news. We had no water. A little more investigation revealed the problem... Yup, that's right...-27! That is 27 full degrees below zero!! In other words, IT"S REALLY COLD. We had this problem once before, two winters ago when the water pipe that goes from the 'old shop' where the entire water system for the resort is housed to our building/house froze solid in one section. They dug it up that spring and insulated it so when we had no problem with freeze ups last year, we figured we were in the clear. But, I guess we were wrong. So today I sit here at the kitchen island, desperately in need of a shower...a sink full of dishes, washer full of laundry, toilets full of...well, you know, waiting for the water to amazingly start flowing again. (Jack said something about hot water, high pressure...a couple more hours...) I guess tonight we will have to leave the water running as it is going to be another cold one...

Not much else is going on here. We're starting to go a little stir crazy as it is wayyyyy to cold to spend any length of time outside. We've been making the best of it however, and transformed the dining room into a huge tent/campsite this week. On Wednesday morning, between the hours of 7 am and 9 am...this is what happened to the house:
And that is only the dining room and playroom. Trust me when I say that there was not a corner of the house that did not have toys strewn all over it!! We had a great day however and the boys truly enjoyed playing in their tent:

So, for now, I'll just use the power of my mind to make it seem warmer and sing at the top of my lungs...WE'RE HAVING A HEAT WAVE, A TROPICAL HEAT WAVE....yeah, I wish!!

Not me Monday...

I've been reading MckMama's blog for a while but never been brave enough to post a Not Me Monday post till now...The simple premise (In MckMama's own words...)

Are you feeling ashamed for letting your child go to bed without brushing his teeth...again!? Did you eat a Snickers bar during a meeting without anyone knowing? Do you pretend that my Tweets are really urgent messages when you receive them on your cell phone? Are you feeling embarrassed that you kicked the dog? We'll don't be. Not Me! Monday was born out of a desire to admit some of our imperfections and reveal a few moments we'd rather forget. Why? Well, for one, because it's just plain fun to pretend that we really did not do the things that we actually so did do. And, two, because reading through great tales of other people's Not Me! Mondays each week is a great way to level the playing field. We're all human, we all take embarrassing shortcuts, and so we may as well show each other that we're all in good company! : make a post to your blog denying all the things that you have recently done that you would be embarrased to admit...then link it to her blog.

So, here it goes:

I did not have to keep myself from wanting to kill my two year old 'handyman' when he 'fixed' the TV with his toy hammer. Have you ever seen what an LCD TV looks like when the screen is shattered...well, I haven't because this would never happen in my house but I've been told :-) that it looks a lot like a really cool plaid overlaid with a spider web. But I wouldn't know for sure...because that would never happen...at least not to me!

I did not actually vacuum the dining room table after serving a 'taco night' meal complete with Spanish rice to 6 kids (not all mine! 4 were borrowed) because it was probably quicker than trying to sponge off all the cheese, lettuce and rice.

I did not go to the grocery store and turn all my change into cash at the coinstar machine because I forgot to budget for preschool this month...nope...not me!

And finally, I most definately did not pretend to be asleep the other day so that I could get a few minutes to myself when my husband came home from work the other day. Definately not me...I would never do that!

I do Fondue, do you?

Hello there...I'll finish the Christmas post a bit later but I just had to share a tid-bit about the way we finally got Ryan to eat dinner one evening. As many of you know, my RyGuy is not the best dinner eater in the world. He eats plenty during the day and I'm not so worried about the nutrition aspect of it, but it is just so aggrivating that at dinner time he ususally refuses to take even a single bite. A little while ago, I can't remember when exactly it was, I was just about to finish up my concoction of Mac "N Cheese and Jack had an eppifiany! What if we poured the cheese sauce in one of our fondue pots and let the kids dip the leftover smoked ham and steamed broccoli in it? Well, needless to say it was a huge hit and I have never seen Ryan eat so much for dinner. They had a blast stabbing and dipping and eating and it just goes to show that sometimes all you have to do is think outside of the box (thank you Honey...you know I'm always in the box and have so much trouble breaking free). So, here is a couple of quick pictures of our Fondue night...I'm sure it will now be a regular occurance!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

I know it has been a while...and it's all my fault. He eats well (and a lot...) and he is very physically coordinated. He loves learning, as long as it is on his terms. He has a huge vocabulary and is starting to get a bit of a fresh mouth...but he comes by it honestly and Jack and I are working to lead by example (speaking to each other with more respect and showing Jake how to do the same). He is still loving preschool and can't wait each day to spend more time with his 'bestest friend' Aidan.

Ryan "Thumper"
Age: 2
Length: 34 1/2 inches 48th percentile
Weight: 29 lbs 14 oz 59th percentile
Head Circumference: 20 inches 93rd percentile

Okay, yes...the kid has a huge melon! But it is simply to hold all his brains in!! While Jake is also very smart...Ryan seems to be ahead of where Jake was at this age. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Ryan wants to be just like Jake and has learned a lot from him. Ryan can already count to 13, sing many songs including his ABC's, and hold complete conversations. He speaks very clearly and is generally understood by most people about 90% of the time. He is still a little monkey and is in constant motion. He falls down constantly...we joked with the pediatrician that it is the weight of his head that pulls him down! Honestly though, I think while he is very coordinated...his brain is still racing faster than his body can keep up. And...about that body...Jake better hurry up because Ryan is gaining on him! Won't be too much longer and they'll be the same size!!

All in all, we are so blessed to have to happy, healthy well adjusted boys. And while many a day I'd send them off with the gypsies just for a moments peace...the truth is I would not trade them for all the tea in China! They are my world and I love them so incredibly much...sometimes it actually hurts.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAKE!!

Okay, admittedly...I am a bit late with this but my camera was giving me trouble and I could not get it to work to download the photos...so, better late than never.

Jake got a video from a family friend of 'Rescue Heroes', fireman, policemen, construction workers etc that are part of a group that helps out local emergency services people. One of those 'really cool' kids cartoon shows that had it's own line of toys. Well, long story short, Jake wanted a rescue hero birthday but they actually don't make rescue heroes anymore so he settled for a fire truck birthday! The big hit however was his gift from us...a real ATV (gas, 50cc governed down to 5 mph...complete with a full face HJC helmet like daddy's...). Jake was thrilled and is actually a very good rider. He is very concerned with where he is at all times and so far has only bumped into 1 fireplace...and that is only because he was coasting to a stop. He and Jack try to go out for a ride each day but when it is a school day it gets tough because there is so much going on. He loved all his other gifts as well and once again it's time to go threw the playroom and thin things out...just in time for Christmas!

We are getting busier by the minute with all the different projects Jack has come up with to keep us all going thru the winter. We have not had much snow yet, but plowing has become a huge part of what we do each week. We've had a couple small storms and a couple call for some sanding but each day the phone rings with more people interested in having Jack plow. It is snowing as we speak and I know that Jack is just itching to get out there in the truck and get at it...I know that it generally seems to be a real pain for most of us but please...for our sake...pray for LOTS OF SNOW so that the new plow does not go to waste. Jack's other adventure for the winter is a concession trailer that we will be staffing to offer quick and inexpensive meals to our local travelers and snowmobilers. Currently the trailer is up by Route 25 so that we can get the car traffic and as soon as the riding begins, we'll be moving it down into the resort to catch the snowmobile traffic. There really is not anywhere to grab just a quick bite while snowmobiling and get back on the trail. We will have an indoor area to sit and warm up to eat, as well as the bathrooms open for use...but the main focus is to provide good, cheap, quick food that you don't have to take all your gear off to enjoy! I'm just hoping my willpower stays strong so that I don't too much from it...none of it is really good for you...but the hand cut french fries are to die for!! I've got to run and make the menu board for it so that they can open tomorrow...catch you all later!

Just when you think....

Just when I think I can sit for even one minute to write out a deposit slip, someone gets into something. Today, as I was sitting at the desk in the bedroom, I noticed an eerie quiet settling over the house. That is NEVER a good sign. I popped up off my chair, pen still in my hand and started my slow walk, peeking into every room to see if I could find the mess that silence always brings. I did not have to go very far as when I poked my head into Ryan's room he replied "Hi Mumma, I paintin'!" I immediately looked to make sure his diaper was still on...which is was. He had taken the tube of Desitin that we keep in the basket of changing supplies on his dresser and was smearing it all over the top of his bureau. A few minutes later the crisis was dealt with and his room is smelling nice and clean!! No chance of rash for the top of his dresser anytime soon!
Ryan has been sleeping in a big boy bed for the last few days/nights. Jack wants him to be out of the crib so he put him in the bed on Monday night. It has been going well, but I am very sad as we have hit just one more milestone that means that while he'll always be my baby, he is not a baby anymore. Speak of the devil...he is awake so I have to run...post photos later!!

Okay...here's a photo of Ryan in his Big Boy Bed!! Other than that it is just getting ready for Jake's b-day tomorrow...I'll be posting more soon!

Happy Turkey Day...a bit late!

A belated Happy Thanksgiving to everyone...family and friends alike!! I was at my parents with the boys from Wed-Sat and while I did sit down a couple of times to try to post, the boys had other ideas. They were a little stir crazy at my parents house...and I've got their cold so I'm not feeling 100%, which just adds to the chaos. We had a wonderful dinner with my folks though and thank you to Nana for all the cooking and all the leftovers!!
Ryan's birthday party was a lot of fun! We had a ton of kids here and everyone was well behaved, except for the birthday boy. He got a couple 'time-outs' before he improved his attitude. Here are some photos from the party. He loved his tractor cake and could not wait for everyone to have lunch so that he could have some of it...of course with 'ice peam'! He is talking up a storm and we are loving every minute of it. His limp is getting better every day and is barely noticable when he walks now. Hopefully that will be the end of that.
Jake is doing well and getting very excited for his birthday. We will participate in his 'birthday walk' at school on Wednesday and then celebrate his actual birthday on friday as a family, then have his party on Saturday. His party will be a bit smaller than Ryan's as many people who were here for Ryan have said that they already have plans for Jake's. I am hoping that this does not cause problems down the road as each boy realizes that " So'NSo was at Ryan's/Jakes party but not at mine" We'll deal with that if the problem arises. Other than that, just hoping to make it through Jake and then Jack's birthday on the 13th before we do much for Christmas...I want their birthdays to stand out, not be overshadowed by the holiday! Peace to all....Keri

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RYAN!!

Ryan is two today!! Boy how time flies. I'll add more to the post later but right now I have two crabby boys to deal with. Just wanted you to see Ryan enjoying the new tractor we gave him for his birthday. We opted to give it to him today because there will be too much going on on Sunday...and because Jack is the least patient man I've ever met! He loves it and we've even convinced him to let Jake take a turn or two (Jake was having a bit of trouble understanding that it's Ryan's birthday and a bit sad that he did not get a really cool gift today too - he's better now and enjoying sharing Ryan's toy). So here is a picture and I'll be back later with stuff to say...

Okay, it's nap time...finally!!! Ryan has been having a great birthday so far. He has played with his tractor almost non-stop and we finally had to bring it into the rec-hall downstairs so that we could come in and warm up. He wanted to take it to bed with him and it took a bit of convincing that it was just too big to come up into the house. Jake has started feeling a bit better as well, and now understands that this is Ryan's special day and soon he'll have one of his own. We've marked his day on the calendar and he is crossing off the days each day before bedtime.

Ryan has suddenly developed a limp and while he does not appear to be in any pain, it is a bit concerning. I have called the pediatrician and they said to just watch him for another day or so and then give them a call back. If it is not getting any better, they will take a look at it. He is walking with a limp and can't seem to be able to run. They way he walks reminds me of the way someone might walk if their leg was 'asleep'. He is not complaining at all about it...it just make me sad to see him limping. But, trust me, it has not slowed him down at all.

Not much else to report...Jake's gymnastics class had dwindled down to nothing on Thursdays so we'll start going to the class on Saturday mornings. It is a large group but they have two instructors and hopefully he'll do okay. We won't sign up for another session if he has a hard time with it.

Okay...so I spend too much time with my camera...

I know, there are so many other things I should be doing. My parents arrived home on Wednesday afternoon and we were there shortly after. Jake and Ryan could not get out of the car fast enough to jump into Nana's arms. I think they missed her just a little bit. We had a very nice visit and also got to see Uncle Chris. Uncle Chris and Papa took them for a ride in the fire truck and they also got to sit on and play with the bulldozer. Two big exciting things in the matter of one hour! They were in heaven!! When it was time to go...Jake did not want to leave so Ryan and I came home and Jake got to spend a extra night with Nana & Papa. Next week, we'll let Ryan do the same!

We are very excited for Uncle Chris & Aunt Kim as they now have an official purchase & sales on their first house!! It is going to be great and they boys can't wait for them to move in so that we can go visit!! It has a great backyard to play in and lots of room to run around in...and for them to make messes in!! Congratulations!

Not much else is going on here, weather is getting cold and it has snowed a couple times, but no accumulation yet, thank goodness. I'm not so sure I'm ready for winter yet. We are getting ready for Ryan's birthday party on the 23rd...anyone want to come, you are more than welcome. Just let me know. He picked a tractor theme so we will be going tomorrow to look for green and yellow and tractor decorations. We also have a big tractor surprise for him...I can't wait to see the look on his face! Jake wants to have a Rescue Hero birthday (it's a toy from several years ago but he has a little movie about it and loves it) so we are going with a Fire/Police theme. I have not found very much police stuff unfortunatley, so it will most likely be more of a fire truck theme.

We are starting to try and get a photo of the boys for a christmas card...here's the latest attempt at the waterfall up on Ellsworth Hill. Ryan loves waterfalls and we hiked up to the top, the boys did great!! Hope everything is going well for all of you and we'll be updating again soon.

My THREE boys...

Well, it's been a good week. Jack was home at the end of the week as he had some minor surgery on Wednesday. Let's just say there will not be any more babies from these Killions...he has been bit uncomfortable and tired but he is too much of a macho man to let me do anything to help him. He made his own food, got his own drinks and medicine and such. I will never understand men...even when they are hurting, they won't accept any help. So, I just did my best to keep the kids busy and away from him so he could rest. It was a tough thing to do because all they wanted to do was sit in his lap...not the best place for him.
Uncle Keith was here this weekend, getting away from the hustle and bustle of MA. He will probably be back next weekend with Chloe & Bree too. We always have so much fun when they visit. We are looking to plan something to do that is fun for the four kids. I'm hoping that this week I can get a bit more Christmas shopping done as well...I'm almost there but have very few ideas of what to get for my boys. Of course, they are still very interested in construction equipment and tractors...but we have so much of that already. I'm still searching for stuff and any ideas would be welcomed!! I think we are going to do a friends party for each of them on/near their birthday and then one big joint family party. It's not fair to the family, especially those who would have to travel 3 hours or so to expect them to come to two parties, two weeks apart...and it's not fair to the boys to not have all their family at each of their parties. We are still working on dates, because it is also our anniversary, thanksgiving and my LiaSophia party between their two birthdays...never a dull moment.
Nana & Papa will be home from Florida this week and they boys are very excited...they can't wait to see them so I think we will be in Ossipee on Wednesday after Jake gets out of school. We'll come back on Thursday in time for gymnastics. Jake was the only one that went to gym on thursday, so they let Ryan participate as well. He had a blast. Maybe it's time to enroll him in the mini-stars program, we'll see! Not much else going on this week. Jake got a couple boo-boo's...but what else is new? He is fairly accident prone but so far it has just been bumps and bruises...who knows what is next!

In Memoriam...

Today we would like to remember a good friend, Dory. Our little goldfish Dory took her last swim this morning while we were out at gymnastics. We had pulled her out of the tank yesterday and put her in her own bowl because she was not doing well since we got her. Jake seems fine with it. I explained that she was very sick and her body was tired so she won't live here on earth anymore, she'll live with all the other fishies in Heaven. He looked up at me with those quarter size dark eyes, hesitated a minute, then said "Okay Mum...can I go play trains now?" And that was that...

Other than that, this week has been going well! Kelly has been here from Long Island and it has been great to spend some time with him, but we are missing his sidekick, Kerri. She was unable to join him because she is working. Kelly starts his new job at the country club next tuesday. We are very excited for him that while he is going back to just being a line cook, there is great possibility for upward movement and he now gets better hours, pay and benefits!!

Jake had his last gymnastics class for the session this week and while he did want me to join him, as soon as the warmups were over, I retreated to the waiting room and he finished the WHOLE CLASS by himself without my help and with no tears. This has been a process for him and we are so proud to see how much he has grown through this short 8 week class. We will be signing him up for the next session as well. About 1/2 way thru the class today he yelled across the room to me "Mom, This is FUN!"

Ryan is feeling better, but has gotten in some trouble this week. As many of you know, both boys tend to stand right at the entertainment center when they are watching TV. That lends to eventually touching the TV. Jack has been more and more irritated with them touching it lately (as he has been more and more irritated about life in general lately) and last night the preverbial stuff hit the fan. Jake had turned the TV sideways in the cabinet and then Ryan did something (I did not see it, I was on the phone and only heard the aftermath) and the end result was that the TV fell out of the cabinet and onto the floor. We do not know how it did not fall onto one of them or break, but, Jack lost it and took the TV away from the kids for the week. Now, we don't watch THAT much TV but there are times when it does come in handy to keep the kids occupied. This moring was a huge challenge as they kept asking to watch but so far the afternoon has gone fairly smoothly. This could be a good thing...even though we don't watch more than a few shows a day, it is probably more than we should. The hardest part so far is that they are not able to play the 1 video game a day that they had earned (a friend had given us their old V-Smile...an educational video game and they are able to play 1 game a day in the afternoon if they have been good all day). We are coming up with other rewards for good behavior.

Jen K. and I played "tag" over the last two days...I watched Addie yesterday so she could go to her PT conference for Aidan and then she brought Jake home with her. Addie was sleeping so she came back down and picked her up later in the afternoon. Then today she came over again but it was like a race...she came at 3:20 so I could go to my 3:30 hair appointment then I raced back so that she could leave Aidan here and get to Addie's 18 month checkup by 4:30. It was hectic and crazy but I love my new do and Addie is healthy as a horse...and Jake, Ryan and Aidan essentially destroyed the house with all the toys...Just about a perfect day!! I'm very thankful that I have Jen to lean on...THANKS WOMAN!! That's it for now. Girls weekend this weekend...I hope to be able to stay focused and actually spend some money on me, not Jack or the kids!!!

Ryan's rough go....

Ryan has been having a tough go of it lately...he's had a cold that has hung on for about a week now and his poor nose is just so gross! It's running constantly and of course it is like trying to nail jello to a tree to wipe it. He has been tired and sleeping a lot. When he wakes up he is always grumpy!! Jake went in with me on Saturday afternoon to get him after his nap and Jake climbed into the crib with him to try to cheer him up. It worked!! Jake shared his hippo and then they both started hamming it up for the camera. Here are a couple cute shots!

This afternoon, Ryan was very grumpy...whiney and just wanted to be held. He also seems to have a fever so I think we might be headed to see the Doctor tomorrow to have his ears checked. Hopefully they are clear and he was just overtired. Daddy let them both stay up late last night because I went out to dinner with Becca (1st time we've gotten together in just about 2 years!). Here's hoping things are going well with everyone and that Ryan will be feeling better soon!

Jake's New Pet...

Jake is beyond thrilled...he now has a pet. I'll have to start at the beginning, for those of you who know the story, skim...Jake was having some trouble with the very last part of toilet training. He had the whole premise, he was just having some trouble implementing it. Most of it was his lack of desire to stop playing and take care of himself...so...I decided to bribe him. Hey, it worked to get him to pee, why should it not work for poop! We decided together that if he could go a whole month with nothing other than legitimate accidents, he could get a fish. I figured it requires the least amount of care, right? Well, this was the weekend.

Yesterday, Jake & I went out to Wal-Mart, got him a cute little 2.5 gal tank with a hood, light & filter, some gravel, a couple plants, etc... He had a blast setting the tank up on the dresser in his room and then he was very patient and waited for the water in the tank to stabilize and we went back out today for the fish. He bounced his way all the way thru Wal-Mart again and you would have thought we had given him the whole world when I told the young man "Two Goldfish, please". They carefully transfered them to the bag and we went to wait in line to pay the .58 cents for our fish. As I held the bag by my side in line, Jake sat on the floor watching and chatting non-stop to his fish, which he has named Nemo & Dory. He told every person that made eye contact...he even told the nice Asian ladies at the Thai restaurant when we picked up dinner, that he had just gotten a fish.

So, long story short, we got them home, put them in the tank and Ryan and Jake spent most of the rest of the afternoon watching the fish. After baths and books, Ryan had to come in to say goodnight to the 'ishies' and we put the boys in bed. A few minutes later, Jake comes running out of his room, not frantic...but definately urgently telling us that he's had a 'little accident' in his bedroom. His words exactly were "They told me they were hungry so I was trying to feed them and it backfired." ( Yes, the child used the word backfired) We looked at the tank to find 1/2 a jar of goldfish flakes floating in the tank...

Anywho...long story short...the moral here is never leave the fish food in the bedroom with the VERY excited four-year old...that is unless you want to clean the tank and start over...(fish are still doing fine...but we'll see, we had to change the water and put them right back in it).

The pantsless wonder...

Yes, Ryan has decided that he no longer wants to wear pants. Every time I turn my back, he has taken his pants off and is running around in just a diaper. No big issue...I can generally wrestle him into a pair if we need to go anywhere. My only question is...why didn't he start this over the summer when the weather was warmer and it was not so important to wear pants???? Anywho...

Jake and Ryan both have colds so it has been a little bit more work for me the past few days. Jake is feeling better but has been sleeping in (it was almost 8 am this morning) so I've kept him home from school Tue & Wed. He'll go to gymnastics tomorrow and then back to school on Monday. Ryan seems to be taking the cold the worst. His poor little nose is just like a river and of course he wants to wipe it himself. Just imagine a giant stripe of dried snot across his cheeks. Definately a bath tonight!!

Our last weekend at the resort was great and the kids had a wonderful time doing all the Halloween activites we had planned. Jake was especially excited to 'eat some pig' at the Pig Roast on saturday night. I got a couple pictures of Ry in is monkey costume but Jake was on a bee-line trick-or-treating so I was not able to get any really good pictures of him...yet. We have a Mom's Club halloween party here on Friday, so I'll be sure to have my camera ready.

It's been getting quite cold at night so I was FINALLY able to get Jack to help me take the AC units out of the windows and turn the heat on. He was hoping to make it till Nov 1st, but the house is just not warming up during the day anymore...oh, well...at least I don't keep the heat up to 80...a sweatshirt works just fine! Hope all is well with everyone and that the ghosts and goblins don't cause too much trouble on Halloween...I'll be sure to post more pictures when I get them!!

So...it's been a while...

...but with my Mom & Dad leaving for Florida this week, I figured what the heck. Fall has brought a sense of peace to the resort, probably because we've been so quiet. The peace does not follow into our home however...as the boys are as busy as ever!! Jack was away this weekend which left me to man the store and run the resort as well as take care of the boys, the house and myself. It was a godsend to have Donna (Jack's Mom) here to help.

Jake is loving preschool and when we ask, daily, what his favorite part of the day is he continually answers, playing outside. I know he has been doing well though from all of the 'paperwork' he has been bringing home. If the quantity of projects coming home keeps up, we're going to need a bigger place. My days go fairly smoothly with him off for the morning. Ryan typically helps me with a project, then before we know it...it's time to go get Jake. Ryan tells Jake all the time that he misses him when he is at school. It's so sweet!! And Jake greet Ry every afternoon with a huge hug. It's good to know that deep down behind all the fighting and bikering they do love eachother!

Ryan was sick over the weekend and it was so sad to see my little hurricane just sit in a stoller and stare out at the universe, not even thinking about moving. I wish there had been something I could have done for him. I hate it when they are sick, but I do love how much they cuddle when they are. He has also taken up the art of removing his clothing and diaper, especially at night. Jack went to check on him before bed on Tuesday night and there he was, laying in his crib, NAKED!! It was the cutest thing I had ever seen. That was until Wed. morning when he had taken his diaper off, but put his PJ's back on and then proceeded to pee all over his bed!! Oh well, clean sheets were in order anyway.

Well, I guess that is enough for today...I'll try to update weekly at a minimum but I take pictures constatly so keep your eye on the slideshow for the best of the best...

Love you all!!

Keri

Our new Blog...here goes

Hello all...

I'm horrible at getting e-mails and news out to all the interested parties about what is going on in our life on a daily basis...and things are sure to only get crazier, so, lets put technology to work for us.
